Participants will learn how to create activities to engage middle and high school students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts.  STEM education is critical for students as they prepare for the jobs of the future.  Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to inspiring under-resourced students to become the next generation of scientific leaders.  The Learning Lab is a 3,000-square-foot classroom and laboratory space and the home of Vertex’s programs that provide hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) opportunities to Boston Public School students.  The Learning Lab hosts over 1000 students per year through a set of programs that run throughout the academic year and the summer.  The Head of the Learning Lab and a Vertex scientist volunteer will share the steps involved in developing a STEM activity. There will also be time for participants to engage with STEM activities used in the Learning Lab to engage students.
